Week One: GO!

Week One of our Harry Potter Run of the Peloton Dads Challenge is all set to GO!

The Match-ups are listed below.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read this entire post so we don’t get the same questions repeatedly.

IMPORTANT CHANGES / UPDATES:

  1. Attendance Bonus – there are bonuses available if you participate 6 or more times in the 9 weeks of the regular season. The Attendance Bonus is ONLY added in the Playoffs!  The teams who have more player consistently participating each week will have an advantage in the playoffs that offsets some of the fear of increasing your PR during the regular season.
  2. Equal Weighting – in this run of the PDC we are making it so all riders have the same weighting in results.  Your final percent over goal (including cadence bonus and attendance bonuses, if applicable) will be converted into POINTS for the team by simply multiplying [only] the percent over goal by 10,000.  Example: after the cadence bonus my final percent to goal is 105.48%.  If you multiply the 5.48% that I finished OVER GOAL then I scored 548 points.  Those points scored by each rider are then AVERAGED to produce the team’s score.
  3. Performance Cap – One potential hazard of equal weighting is that one rider with a lower PR who suddenly has a massive increase could really throw the average way off. To ensure this does not happen, all riders are CAPPED at 112% to goal (i.e. the most points any one rider can score in any one week of the challenge is capped at 1200 points).  This also ensures no one sandbags their performance goal.

MATCH-UPS for Week One:

Hufflepuff faces off against Gryffindor!

Slytherin takes on Ravenclaw!

RIDERS HAVE BEEN SORTED TO THEIR TEAMS!  THE LINK AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST WILL OPEN A SPREADSHEET WITH ALL THE RIDERS LISTED, THEIR TEAM ASSIGNMENT,  THEIR PERSONAL GOAL SET, AND, IF COMPLETED, THEIR PREFERRED RIDE TIMES!

TEAM LEADERS:

Each team leader will start a thread for his team each week in the Peloton Dads Facebook group. Please locate that thread and use that to share your strategy and successes with your team.  This helps everyone see their teammates for recognition and it reduces the posts in the group so we don’t have 300+ posts every week.  Please reach out to your team leaders as a first stop if you have any questions.

Gryffindor:  Paul Brundage

Ravenclaw: Sean Beaudry

Hufflepuff: Evan Kline

Slytherin: Richard de Chevigny

HASHTAGS:

Every rider should add the main hashtag #PelotonDadsChallenge to their profile.  That way, when in a ride, you can use the Here Now leaderboard OR, to see ALL RIDERS, you can use the “All Time” Leaderboard and select ONLY the #PelotonDadsChallenge hashtag.  The All Time Leaderboard will show ALL riders with that hashtag who have completed their ride in REAL TIME through the ride so you can RACE someone on the leaderboard even if you are not riding at the same time. I suggest finding an opponent on the list who is near you in output and set your sights to beat him!  You can use the optional ride together times on the sign up document to find someone who rides at the same times as you ride!

In addition to the hashtag above, each rider is also encouraged to add their respective team hashtag and make it your main, visible hashtag while riding so others can see you on the Here Now leaderboard and compete.   The team hashtags are:

Gryffindor:  #PDCgryffindor

Ravenclaw: #PDCravenclaw

Hufflepuff: #PDChufflepuff

Slytherin: #PDCslytherin

WEEK ONE RIDE:

We will start of the PDC with a BANG!  As in, a CLUB BANGERS with Alex!  The ride is from 1/22/22.  YOU MUST DO THE ASSIGNED RIDE.  RESULTS ARE PULLED AUTOMATICALLY AND ARE ONLY LOOKING FOR THIS PARTICULAR RIDE.

CADENCE BONUS:

If you land within 3+/- RPM (inclusive of endpoints) of the average cadence for the class, then you will be awarded a Cadence Bonus of 3% to your raw output number.  The average cadence for this class is 76 RPM so you earn the cadence bonus if your final cadence is 73 to 79 RPM, inclusive of endpoints. (i.e. 73 and 79 are GOOD for the bonus… 72 RPM and under, or 80 RPM and over are NOT).

DEADLINE TO FINISH:

The deadline to finish your ride is 8 AM Eastern Time Friday morning, firm.  This is because I have to get the reporting done before my actual job work starts.  The posted winners for the week will usually be posted by Noon on Friday, but usually earlier.
