How It Works

How it works

  1. FIRST – You must follow the Peloton Dads Challenge “ghost” profile. This enables us to automatically pull your data from your profile. On your Peloton app, search for DADSCHALLENGE and follow that account. You SHOULD GET A FOLLOW BACK. If the account is not yet following you back, then we cannot pull your data. If you followed and have not received a follow back within 24 hours, please message David Ginn directly to request the follow back.
  2. REGISTER – On this site, click on “SIGN UP”. You must register EACH WEEK you plan to participate. This ensures we know which profiles we are expecting to see / pull data from.
  3. We divide the group into teams. NEW RIDERS are assigned a team (this is intended to ensure the two teams stay quite close in performance level, thereby ensuring the competition continues to be fun and competitive).
  4. Your GOAL for each ride is to hit 94% of your PR kJs. Anything over and above that goal number is extra kJs to support the rest of your team. NEW as of 2/19/21: if you are within 3 RPMs above or below (inclusive) of the announced “Target Cadence” for the class you will get a 3% BONUS to your result.
  5. The TEAM GOAL is the total of all the combined individual goals for each rider who RIDES. This is important to note because the goal is adjusted if anyone is unable to ride due to various reasons (illness, power outage…)
  6. On Wednesday we pull the registration list, assign new riders to a team, tally up the collective team goals, and send out the announced ride. This post is usually around 1p-3p Eastern Time.
  7. The ride has to be completed by 8AM EASTERN US TIME ON FRIDAY MORNING. The ride is announced Wednesday around 1-3pm so that gives you roughly a 43 hour window to get the ride completed. We did have a few requests to move the deadline on Friday back but, unfortunately, I cannot accommodate a midday cut-off. (I do have a real job that I get paid to perform LOL!) So I pull the data and do the write up early on Friday. If something goes wrong and you’re unable to ride on Thursday, it is no big deal (see above). Also, the window is big enough that it allows for West US Coast riders to get really two evenings to choose from and it allows for our European Riders to have two mornings to choose from. Remember, we are spanning a lot of time zones here!
  8. The FINAL RESULTS will be posted on Friday, usually before Noon Eastern Time.
  9. NEW: Your percent over goal will be converted into a point value for your team.  The total points earned divided by number of riders will be the TEAM SCORE. This will be the score you compare to your opponent.  What this achieves is that it levels the playing field.  All riders, regardless of their riding level, contribute to the team’s success with EQUAL WEIGHTING.
